I was torn between here and the Win Mojo forum. Mods - Move me if I'm in the wrong place. or am I wasting my time and this is indeed just expected behavior and I should learn to not sweat the power bill and just let these monitors sleep instead of powering them off? I've got an RMA pending on the cables since I believe one of them is bad (black screen no link), and monoprice is supposedly going to check the adapter specs for me.īefore I go through all this crap, is there anything else I need to check out here? Is the adapter potentially a problem (I don't have any card with a full-size DP that I can test with). I've also read a couple posts that seem to indicate DP devices are treated like plug-and-play devices - powering one off makes windows remove the device.
Some googling turned up a whole bunch of people with similar issues, but they all seem to be doing Eyefinity (which I'm not) plus one particularly interesting post (that I haven't bothered to go verify) about this behavior being caused by non-spec cables carrying power on pin 20 when they aren't supposed to. Both of the other two cables produce the same behavior on either monitor. So I swapped cables around and discovered one of the three apparently does not work at all - I get a blank black screen and "No Signal" messages on either monitor when using it.

Now I ordered 3 of these cables, wanting to have a spare, and anticipating an upgrade at some point in the future to a video card with full-size DP ports (.that's either redundant or dirty, I can't decide which.) on it.
I then get a message about a DisplayPort Link failue.

When I hooked everything up, I discovered that I could get the full 2560x1440 resolution on both monitors with no problem, but when I power the second monitor off and back on, all windows, task bar, desktop icons, etc that happened to be on the second monitor get slid over to the primary monitor, which itself will blink out to black and then back on - almost exactly as if I had unplugged the cable or deactivated the monitor. Tighten or re-insert the PCI-E thumbscrew. Mini DisplayPort -> Mini DisplayPort Male to Full-Size Female adapter -> DisplayPort cable -> Second Monitorīog-standard Win 7 "Extend these displays" configuration - no Eyefinity or anything. Check if the graphics card is seated properly in the PCI-E port. This is my first experience doing anything with DisplayPort.ĭual Link DVI -> DL-DVI cable -> Primary Monitor
Since my run of good cabling luck had ended, I ordered a Display Port cable and a mini DisplayPort to full-size DisplayPort adapter from monoprice. I'm aware this should not have worked in the first place, but I tried it one day, it did work, and you know what they say about gift horses. When the dust settled, I discovered I could no longer get 2560x1440 over an HDMI connector.

I recently had to do an OS reinstall (which included current video card drivers I downloaded directly from AMD). This video card has a Dual-link DVI port, a single-link DVI, 1 HDMI and 2 mini-DisplayPort. I have Win 7 system with a Radeon HD6870 card and two of those giant 27-inch Monoprice 2560x1440 monitors.
